| Entertainment: All these are a fairly close drive from your cabin:
Nantahala Outdoor Center with mountain biking, peaceful whitewater rafting through the incredibly beautiful Nantahala Gorge, also, canoe and kayak instruction --- 30 minutes drive from the cabin
Great Smoky Mountains National Park --- 30 minutes --- absolutely incredible trails; several into Virgin Forest areas that have NEVER been logged. Also a historical reproduction of homestead life, a loop drive or bike ride thru Cade's Cove (this is unique and SO beautiful, do go if you can...)
Great Smoky Mountain Railroad --- 30 minutes
Blue Ridge Parkway --- 20 minutes --- this is one of the most peaceful and scenic drives in the U.S. Many short hiking trails and quiet overlooks with majestic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Fontana Dam and Fontana Lake --- 45 minutes
Cherokee Indian Reservation---30 minutes -- Gambling casinos, as well as a blatantly touristy Indian shop kids will love. And, my personal favorite in Cherokee: Oconaluftee Indian Village --- a fantastically educational historic reproduction of early Cherokee life. An informative guide will lead you through winding paths in the gorgeous Cherokee forest, showing details of tribal life and lore. ---30 minutes ---REALLY good.
"Unto These Hills" --- the nationally famous outdoor drama of the Trail of Tears, the most tragic time in the history of the Cherokee -30 minutes
Cherokee Bear Zoo and Exotic Animals ---30 minutes from the cabin.
Standing Indian Basin ---30 minutes--- Astoundingly beautiful trails from short-and-easy hikes, to all-day hikes; also easily accessible waterfalls and a beautiful 15 minute walk thru the woods to the oldest and largest Poplar tree in Western NC.
Highlands/Cashiers ---- 60 minutes--- Trendy upscale shops for a change of pace in a fresh high altitude (and price!) area. The drive to Highlands is GREAT! It passes some of the most incredible waterfalls that you can see from the road or with a short walk from the road.
Biltmore Estate and Biltmore Gardens ---80 minutes away in Asheville
Roadless Wilderness Areas for serious hikers--- 30 minutes away
